Carshalton Running Day
Sunday 15 April 2007
These pages provide a record of the Carshalton 2007
suburban vintage bus event, at which about 4,500 journeys were made
on 30 old London Transport buses and one
former Surrey Motors coach.
This site has a Photo Gallery -
thanks for the huge response, we will continue updating the
gallery. We still welcome your pictures (here), especially those taken away from the main
sites.
Whilst most services ran as planned, one bus was unfortunately
involved in a road accident before arriving, leading to the
Gravesend feeder service not running, and others suffering
technical problems. The Sutton to Croydon service was
disrupted as a result, and the 151 did not run in the afternoon,
for which we apologise.

A vintage bus running day is an opportunity for members of the
public to ride on and photograph old London buses in a traditional
setting.
About 30 old buses ran free services between Sutton,
Mitcham, Carshalton, Belmont, Wallington and Croydon on Sunday 15
April 2007. This site gives details of the buses involved and the routes they ran, together with some transport history of the area.
A map of the routes is given here. Whilst there was
no central 'base', thanks to Access Self Storage, short workings on the
213 terminated at the former
Carshalton Depot (see photo),
where there was a small static bus display on the
forecourt.
31 buses were in service, some
rarely available to ride. Details and timetables are provided on this
site.
The site includes a fair amount about trolleybuses in the
area, thanks to input from John Parkin
and David Bradley, but sadly it proved
beyond our resources to organise trolleybus operation on 15
April 2007. However, a Routemaster ran a 654 trolleybus replacement service during the
day.
RF340 loads opposite Morden Station
for one of its last journeys in service - the day is 26 June
1976, the last day of RF operation by Sutton Garage, the route the
80A.

470 will run one journey only on 15
April, from Croydon to Epsom.
